The first time I tried yoga I hated it. I didn’t know what the instructor was saying. I couldn’t DO what the instructor was saying because I didn’t know what the instructor was saying and I didn’t want to spend an hour breathing.
Little did I know I would learn to love yoga. I would meet great people who taught me to practice it anytime, anywhere. The first time is intimidating. The words, the poses, it’s like learning a new language! By the fourth time you will start to get it and think less. It’s totally worth it!
While we were on our family trip to Jamaica I practiced yoga on the beach and on our balcony. I love what it does for my mind and my body. One of my favourite places is Hot Yoga Peterborough owned by Laura Nugent who is sweet as pie and passionate and knowledgeable about the art of Yoga. My favourite instructor is Matt Vidler. I love his power vinyasa class which is an amazing workout. This week we paired up Matt and Jer. Hot Yoga is great piece of the Get Fit With Jer journey.
Jer’s goal to lose 100lbs in one year means he needs to change his habits and make new ones, healthy ones! Yoga is a great compliment to any workout plan!
Watch Jer give Hot Yoga a try (watch time 3:30!
Jer did amazing!!! He blew me away with his flexibility!! I'm not as flexible as him!! He and Matt hit it off for sure, because Matt was exactly where Jer was not too long ago. Matt lost 120lbs and completely transformed his life. We will be joining Matt in upcoming Get Fit with Jer posts. But before then, here are some common Q & A's I get when I tell people I love hot yoga: Q: What's the Difference between hot yoga and regular yoga? A: Just the temperature. Hot yoga is done in a room between 35-37 degrees Celsius. "Hot yoga is held in a heated room to stimulate blood circulation, your muscles, joints, organs, and glands, and every system of the body—even the nervous system". I LOVE how I feel after a practice. My skin feels great and I feel detoxified! It also helps with my poor circulation! The warm temperature helps me learn to breathe better for other activities, especially jogging! Q: Do you need to know how to do regular yoga before you try hot yoga? A: No you don't. There are different types of classes for beginners to more advanced. Honestly though, the beauty of Yoga is that you go at your own pace and listen to your body no matter what class you are in. If you can't do a pose, don't do it! No one will judge! No one cares! They are too busy trying not to fall over! I took a friend once who had never tried anything like yoga and she was awesome. No one noticed she was new and she loved it! Q: Is it just for women? A: NO WAY JOSE!! I have seen boxers, hockey players and every type of athlete and non athlete in the yoga studio. Old, young, man or woman yoga can be done by everyone. My kids love it too, but they don't practice at the studio we just do it at home! Q: What do you wear? A: You can wear any kind of breathable athletic wear: shorts, tights, whatever you are comfortable in! Q: How much does it cost? A: It depends what you want to do. At Hot Yoga Peterborough there's different options. For me, buying passes works best. Passes are usually $20 a class. One month memberships are about $100 a month and 6 month memberships are $500. The full pricing schedule for Hot Yoga Peterborough is HERE.

Love this Michelle!!! And love the energy you bring to the studio! You really captured the playful and light energy we like to experience everyday at HYP. Sure, there are those blissful moments of solitude and challenging moments when your thighs are burning from a pose BUT overall we have lots of fun! As you 3 did making this video it appears 🙂
Thank you for being such a bright light and dedicated yogini at HYP.
Hopefully I’ll get to meet Jer soon, he may like Beginner Yoga on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30pm this January or Broga starts with Matt on Sunday January 10th from 1:30pm-2:45pm.
See you on the mat!
Laura Nugent
Thanks Laura!! NAMASTE!
