Emerson Riel is a 7 year old superstar living with Type 1 Diabetes. He was diagnosed at 4 years old and has such a positive outlook about his diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that affects your pancreas. For most people, our pancreas produces insulin naturally. When you have Type 1 Diabetes, your pancreas doesn’t produce insulin anymore.
As part of Emerson’s daily routine he has to check his blood sugar and administer insulin several times a day.
Did you know that 33,000 school age children (5-18 years old) in Canada have Type 1 Diabetes?
Emerson and I shared a socially distanced interview to talk about JDRF and how you can help raise awareness for the Type 1 Diabetes community.
He crushed his $500 goal, but there’s still a long ways to go to find a cure of Type 1.
