Infertility effects approximately 1 in 6 couples in Canada. Although there is no concrete definition of infertility, in a broad spectrum it’s defined as trying to conceive for more than a year without success.
Jessica Yates is well known in our community for her success in real estate, with city wide and Canada wide awards under her belt. However this interview is about her journey with IFV or In Vitro Fertilization.
After several miscarriages, Jessica knew something was wrong. She reached out to her doctor and then asked for a second opinion. Through her second opinion, she learned that she had a chromosome disorder. This meant that for her, she had a 90% chance of miscarrying or a still birth. These are things that no parent wants to experience.
IVF was her best shot at having a healthy, full term baby. During IVF, eggs are extracted, fertilized and screened to help make sure genetic disorders aren’t passed on. There are so many aspects of trying to conceive through IFV that are draining mentally, emotionally and physically. Then there’s the financial side, hundreds of thousands of dollars.
BUT
There is light at the end of the tunnel. Jessica now has a beautiful daughter named Ella. Her first birthday is coming up, Jessica’s life is busier than she ever thought it would be, but she wouldn’t change it for anything.
