Art, crafts and Golden Retrievers – please tell me what could possibly be better than this!
Dan and I had the opportunity to visit Christine Baayen, owner of As Good As Gold. Not only does Christine make art with the dogs, she’s also a breeder. We met years back, and she’s who I got my dog Dolly from.
When Christine had her doggy daycare, every time a new dog would join her, she would send them home with a painting for their parents. Kind of like all the art kids bring home from school.
After retiring and spending time doing her own art, her dog Kevin was persistent to help. I think it goes without saying, he wasn’t always super helpful. So, it was time for Kevin and the other dogs to go and make their own.
They put some canvas out in the driveway with paint drizzled in various places and let the dogs go nuts. Getting them to clean off in the doggy pool afterwards can be slightly challenging.
Dan and I got to experience their art being made first hand as they created in the backyard. The dogs did tricks and ran all over the canvases. They usually go this about 5 times before the art is complete, allowing it to dry outside to reflect nature and the elements.
I swear Golden Retrievers are the best natural anti-depressant. They exhibit a strong natural empathy, they’re kind and they’re quick learners.
