Thanks to Parks Canada we have an exclusive tour of one of Canada’s most haunted locations – The Peterborough Lift Lock.
Lock 21 (The Peterborough Lift Lock), located along the Trent Severn Waterway, is the highest hydraulic lift lock in the world. Built in 1904 taking 8 years to construct, 106 years later it’s just as beautiful.
It’s breathtaking to watch the boats go up and down in the warmer seasons. During the winter months, the canal is turned into a public ice rink – truly Canadian.
Ed Donald, a Lock Master, took us on the tour. He’s in his 32nd year with Parks Canada. Ed and his coworkers have had plenty of spooky encounters. Because of this, several paranormal investigators have come to visit over the years. According to the investigators, there’s 5 resident ghosts living at the locks.
Roughly 25 years ago, Ed did an interview with a local news station about the locks. So, like you could imagine, after telling his story there was an influx of visitors including more paranormal investigators. The Peterborough Lift Lock is ranked in the TOP 5 most haunted places in Canada.
Without spoiling too much of the tour, we got to see many different parts of the structure that most people will never get to see. After a couple ghost stories, even I got a little bit frightened towards the end.
