Say YES to helping the homeless!
Aaron McFadden is a local school teacher on sabbatical.
He had plans to take his family around Canada and help different communities. His plans were squashed because of COVID-19.
So, he decided to do something for his hometown of Peterborough, Ontario. He’s sleeping outside for a week to raise awareness about our increasing homeless problem.
Aaron believes that as a person with a privilege, he has a duty to help, through education and awareness. You can follow his journey by clicking HERE.
He partnered with Simal Iftikhar, a student at Trent University whose also raising awareness for the homeless issue in Peterborough in conjunction with Peterborough Cares.
They are raising money for the Youth Emergency Centre (YES) located on Brock Street in Peterborough.
Simal has also begun organizing a virtual sleep out event on March 26th, where all money raised will go to YES.
Aaron wants EVERYONE in Peterborough and area to put a “YES” sign in your window. Let’s raise awareness together!

If you’re lacking dinner inspo, check out this recipe that we made with Algonquin Catering, which we were able to donate to YES.
*Please note, if you want to donate food to YES, because of COVID, they aren’t accepting prepared foods (that you would make at home, like cookies, etc.). However, they always accept food from restaurants/catering companies, as long as it hasn’t been sitting out at a party.
