“Medic”
Two syllables that took all my might to speak as I climbed the hills of Devils Elbow during Mudmoiselle. A 5km obstacle course put on by community volunteers, sponsors and the cancer society to raise money for cancer research.
I was calling the medic for one girl who needed water, and the other who couldn’t catch her breath. They were both with their supportive and nurturing team.
I could have and maybe should have been calling the medic for myself. I thought I was gonna die. I thought, “DAMN, I CAN’T FINISH THIS SHIT!” Then along comes another participant. Another woman. Cheering me on. Keeping me moving. There was support and cheer-leading every step of the way.

The power of women empowering women is a beautiful thing. I know most of my beauty blogs are about products, and lipstick and spray tans and which hair colour I’ll pick next. But that beauty is just show, it comes after inner beauty. Beauty is happiness. Beauty is confidence. Beauty is finishing a race that I thought I couldn’t but did because a whole whack of women empowered me to do it. I saw so many beautiful women during Mudmoiselle. A lot of women who were there to support each other.
Women (and men) can be “catty”. We can be driven by jealousy and envy. When you surround yourself with confident, happy women (& men), you will join that mindset. Girlfriends fill a void that husbands and partners can’t. Pick up the phone, call your girlfriend, book a date. Make time for each other. It’s chicken soup for the soul.
This weekend I was also with a powerhouse women,Theresa Caruana in Georgetown ON. She had a special ladies night to celebrate all the women in her life! A wonderful idea!
Here’s a wee vlog from the days race.
I need some advil.
This video shows the course a bit better! Here’s some great go pro footage from Alexa Lupinacci from team “Three Little Pigs”.
