My youngest son, Marcello was born September 15th. Birthdays are special at our house. I make an effort to make sure the birthday person feels celebrated!
When Marcello turned three we visited The Ontario Science Centre. I pulled the other two out of school and we made the trek to Toronto for the day. It was FABULOUS!! I had never been and I fell in LOVE!
Marcello turned 6! The staff gave him fun sunglasses, a magazine and a button with a Hubble Badge!
It’s now a family tradition. Every year on September 15th we visit one of the coolest and funnest places for adults and kids. I love the vibe. I love that kids are encouraged to touch, to feel, to explore and ask WHY!
The staff is incredible, friendly and great with kids. The vlog below shows a fun science craft you can do at home with the kids. You will need:
- Shaving Cream
- Toothpicks
- Food Colouring
- Square pieces of paper (however many kids you have or however many you want to make)
- Ruler (or some kind of scraper)
- Dropcloth (science can be messy)
- Papertowels
Here’s the experiment (total watch time 3:10)

I love the Science Centre too, but haven’t been since I was a kid. Every year I say we should take the kids and next thing I know…the year is over!
Would be so awesome to win!
With a 3.5 year old and 6 year old this would be somewhere they both could enjoy!
ahhhhhhh the kids and I have been talking about going there for close to a year. And we always seem to put it off. Would love to surprise them with this ?
I have not been to the Science Centre in, well, let’s say, way too long to count the years. I need to rejuventate my inner chid and let loose and have some fun. Would be great to take the niece and nephew, and I too will yank them out of school and follow the “Ferreri Tradition!”
Love the Science Centre and my son is a huge fan of myth busters and would love to see the new display!
I love that you have made this a tradition. We need to do this – kids have not been there – yet!
I have three daughters who would love this prize!
I love this place! So many childhood memories.
Yes, please! I would love to go before my maternity leave ends next month.
I’ve never been to the science centre. This would be a perfect chance to go
Would love to take my 7,5 and 2 year old including my husband who have never gone. Yes Michelle we would be honoured for u to come with us : )
We love it there is something for everyone.
i grew up in Toronto and remember when the OSC was being built…if I won, I d give the tickets to one of my three sons…they could have a draw to see who d get them…!!! And yes Michelle, each of my sons has a wife and two kids so there would be an extra ticket for you…!!!
What a great place this would be to visit while I’m off work on mat leave! My 3.5 year old would love it, as would my curious 8 month old I’m sure! Thanks for the opportunity to win tickets! 🙂
Would love a chance to go to the Science Centre with my kids! Went there on a class trip probably 25 years ago..
LOVE the science centre! it’s been a few years since our last visit 🙁
You’ve inspired me to put it back on our radar MF!
What a wonderful birthday tradition for your youngest boy! I’m sure he feels very special! This trip would be great for my family right now. After a summer together we have entered this unfortunate disconnect since school has been back in session. A trip to Toronto would surely melt all our stresses away?!? Loving all the blog posts lately, hope you are feeling well.
I love the Science Centre! When I was teaching in the classroom, I use to love to go to the Science centre as the year end class trip…. All ages loved it!
It’s educational, hands on, engaging for kids, teens and adults!!!! What an awesome family tradition! Kudos MF:)
What a great place for my busy boys (3 and 6)to go and check out. The fact that they are encouraged to touch and feel things make it even more of a draw for me as opposed to the ROM where they could do some serious damage 😉
