People usually categorize themselves as either “artsy” or “sporty”. I don’t think you have to be one or the other. I think you need both in your life! I think even the most “sporty” people in life are artsy. Movies, music, paint, theatre, whatever form it takes, we can all connect to art, and it all starts when we’re small!
Kids are innate artists. They love it. There’s a great age when they just do it. They’re not worried about doing it “wrong” or being judged. Art is as natural as breathing for kids.
My husband and I are both creative people, so it’s no surprise our kids love putting pencil to paper! My husband is a naturally gifted artist and fortunately our kids have all inherited his drawing gene, which is awesome.
I can remember colouring for HOURS as a kid. Today there’s a huge trend for adult colouring. Art is such a mindful and healing exercise, it’s perfect alone or as a family! It’s soothing. Sometimes if the kids are wild, I know getting them to draw or colour will calm them right down.
I think the ‘pen to paper’ art is changing for kids because they’re so connected to their electronic devices. There are some incredible art programs and applications for smart phones and tablets. I think it’s important for kids to evolve with the times, but it’s also important to remember the classics!
Jason Wilkins is a caricature artist. He teaches art to all kinds of people! He kindly invited us for a family caricature art lesson at one of his teaching locations, The Art School of Peterborough!
Take a peek at our family art lesson (vlog total time 3:30)
It was great fun. Marcello, my youngest was really grumpy at first. I think because he was intimidated by what Jason was teaching. As soon as he knew he could go at his own pace and do his own thing, he came around.
He took modelling VERY seriously!

I would absolutely love for our family to win the family art class. We are always looking for new and fun things to do together. And this would be a first. Plus I would just love to see what we learn and what we come up with in terms of pieces.. Perfect wall art!
Thanks Rhianna!! We will announce the winner next week!! Good luck and thanks for taking the time to enter!!
My daughter had Jason as a teacher a few years ago. He is very talented! My girls love to draw this would be a fun opportunity for the whole family.
Thanks Holly! We will announce the winner really soon!!!
Would love a great caricature pic of our family!
