I recently emceed a fundraising event for the Peterborough Humane Society. A great cause in the name of animal rights.
We adopted two kittens from Peterborough Humane Society in August and it was a great experience. Vaccines and neutering was included in the cost of adoption. When Judy O’Brien, the Executive Director asked me to host the annual Furball Gala, I was happy to help.
The main performers were Funk it Up, an incredible Motown band featuring Beau Dixon on lead vocals. I wanted to dress in synch with the theme of the band so I decided to go with a “Go Go Girl” look. I found a picture online of the hair I wanted and took it to my hairstylist Jess at Salon Sorella and Day Spa.
Reese Witherspoon’s hair on the right was the inspiration for my look. Jess used the picture as a reference to recreate the look on me. We also used some clip in extensions to add some length.
I added a headband to hold it together, finish the look off and keep the back poof nice and high! I was really happy with how well Jess did at recreating the look! I also used some of my new favourite makeup. I really struggle this time of year with my skin and hair because of the dryness and lack of sun-kissed colour. I feel like an ashtray this time of year, so a nice foundation and blush is really great at evening out my skin tone and making me feel less gross. (make sure you have a great moisturizer on underneath!)
I look a wee bit tired here, this shot was taken at the end of the night, but I wanted to highlight some of the products I used. I use a lot of Younique makeup, I really like it. Younique recently launched a new liquid foundation. I’m a BIG fan. It’s weightless and super soft.
On my eyes I have regal eye shadow which is a beautiful shimmery purple and with passionate eyeliner (which is also purple).
My lips have a bright pink lip stain called “sultry”.
I was a bit disappointed I didn’t have false eyelashes on, they really would have “costumed” up the look! I did use my 3D Moodstruck mascara and put on a few extra coats for more drama.
As for my skin, I didn’t have time for a spray St Tropez tan, which I highly recommend, so I used my backup which works really well in a pinch, Sally Hansen airbrush legs. I didn’t use it on my face just my body. I LOVE this stuff for photo shoots and for my legs to even out my skin tone and give them a lovely tanned look. You do have to be careful though, it easily runs if it gets wet. Sometimes it marks my bed sheets because it smears off. It easily washes though and doesn’t stain.
So as you can see, getting pretty is so quick and easy (she says with a muhahaha laugh!) As for my dress it’s an oldie from Stitches that was maybe $12. My purple boots are oldies as well, Giant Tiger $29 specials. The earrings were part of an old Halloween costume from the Michaels I believe (they were a gift).
