Tis the season for promposals and prom dress shopping.
I remember my prom or formal as we called it. It was such a big deal, and so it should be!
I also remember the cost, it was a bucket load of money! None of that has changed. A recent online website reported the average girl will spend $919 on prom. HOLY POOP.
It’s like a wedding! The tickets, the hair, the nails, the shoes, the dress, the limo, it’s a BIG INVESTMENT!
I am in LOVE with the dress I have on! Amy & Victoria’s dresses are also stunning! I LOVE that pink!
Some girls won’t get the dream dress they plan of. It’s just not in the budget for most families to spend $500 on a dress. Brides by Tara and I want to help, we want you to nominate a deserving young girl to WIN A PROM DRESS! Watch this video. Comment below and tell us who you think deserves to win. We will pick a winner the second week of May.
Brides by Tara has also offered 15% off any accessories to anyone who mentions this post in store!
Victoria, a co-op student at Brides by Tara, modeled a few of the gorgeous dresses for me. Honestly they are all so pretty, just like her!
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE A FAVOURITE?! The winner doesn’t have to pick one of the dresses shown, but it gives you an idea of the amazing styles for the 2016 season!
Happy prom getting ready season!
Beautiful dresses! As a mom of only boys, the last two of whom graduated last year, I never got the fun of fancy dress shopping 🙁 Back in the dark ages (1979, lol) when I graduated from gr. 13 in Kitchener, we didn’t have prom or any real equivalent. We went back in October for convocation (for which I sewed myself a sexy little black cocktail dress with a silky white jacket), but anything after was on your own. Moving to Manitoba, I learned about “Grad” which is Prom by another name and is a huge thing! I don’t have anyone to nominate in P’tboro, so good luck to everyone there!
Thanks for sharing Monica, love hearing memories like this!
Can a young women whose senior prom on the 14th of May nominate herself? I don’t even own any dresses nor does my family even have $20 to spend on a dress and I don’t know anyone to ask who would have time to nominate me for this..
We have a student at our school who cannot afford to go to prom, and wants to go badly. She does not want to disappoint her friends by not going, but just cannot afford a prom dress.
This is so amazing!!!
I would like to nominate my daughter Teeghan Branscombe! We have been out shopping and your right it’s crazy how expensive it can be, it’s tough to see your daughter try on a gorgeous dress that she absolutely loves, but is way out of your budget 🙁 my daughter Teeghan is many things. She is brave, strong, smart, funny & beautiful to say the least!! She has done amazing I school being on the honour roll and playing in every sport she can. She is kind, courteous and wise beyond her years. Teeghan helps anyone and everyone, young and old and always tries to see the positive and best in every situation. My daughter had the biggest heart of anyone I know and for all these reason and so many more, I nominate her 🙂 thanks Michelle xoxo
I’d like to nominate my best friend Abby Buchan. She’s a grade 12 at TAS & she just got into Animal Biology at Guelph. She’s going to become a vet and obviously schooling for that is expensive so I think she really deserves this 🙂
HI there – what a great inspiration you are to all the young ladies getting ready for their big night. I would like to nominate my granddaughter Alyssa Graham. Alyssa has lived with my husband and I since she was in grade 2. When she came to us, the report card she had was a way below passing – we hired a Tutor to help her and she has worked so hard through the last years with us and is now doing very well. She has been accepted to a few Universities which is quite an accomplishment. We were so rushed in looking at gowns for Prom as my husband had a partial amputation of his left foot which left Alyssa and I very emotionally drained as well as physical exhausted, with no time to look for dresses for this special day. Thanks for giving us this chance.
So I commented on your post but realized after I was supposed to post on the blog. Well our oldest has her prom dress. But my 14yr old Jennika Mitchell is graduating grade 8. Not sure if that counts. We haven’t found her a dress yet. If so i would like to nominate her. She is an amazing girl. Has a huge heart. So kind and sweet. Literally does nothing wrong. Type 1 diabetic who is truly taking it by storm. And is an amazing level 7 gymnast. Love her to bits. And totally agree. That’s a lot of money for one dress. Splitting it up is an awesome idea! !!
I nominate my beautiful daughter Sydney Walsh. Grade 12, your final year of high school is supposed to be an exciting fun time & getting ready to hit the real world. This past year Sydney has met with some difficult challenges and a life changing choice that’s going to put her college education on the back burner for a year. But despite all this, she has worked hard to keep her grades up and will be graduating grade 12 this June! I couldn’t be more proud of her and would love to see her win!
