Every year I get to take part in a very special golf tournament. I don’t golf. I shouldn’t golf, anyone who’s a perfectionist and prone to rage should not play golf.
BUT when the name James Birrell is involved, I can be convinced to do almost anything.
James Birrell, was eight years old when Neuroblastoma took his life December 18th 2001.
Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer of the nervous system, has seen incredible progress in research, thanks to the funding of the incredible legacy of wee James Birrell. He is the James of the world famous James Fund, and the reason why hundreds of golfers join together ever year in the annual Nexicom James Fund Golf Classic.
Every year I meet new survivors of Neuroblastoma, Georgia (bottom centre beside me) has been cancer free for 10 years!! Liam (top left with me) has been cancer free for 11 years!
This golf tournament raises money to send these kids AND their families to a retreat where they can truly connect with others who understand the struggles and journey of living with neuroblastoma.
This year was extra special in the fundraising department because this year McHappy Day in Peterborough and Lakefield Ontario chose the James Fund as their charity of choice. They made a huge donation at the golf tournament.
