I never knew the term self-regulation until I realized my second born struggled with it.
Now my third is dealing with the same struggles. Once I learned about self regulation and the research of Dr. Stuart Shanker, I knew that EVERYBODY needs to know about it, parents or not, we are ALL impacted by it!
Dr. Stuart Shanker’s work and research, is in my opinion a revolution. He is changing the world. I am totally serious.
He is changing the education system.
He is changing how we parent.
Dr. Stuart Shanker is a professor of Philosophy and Psychology at York University and the CEO of The MEHRIT Centre. One of his many books, Calm, Alert and Learning: Classroom Strategies for Self-Regulation, is a top selling educational publication in Canada.
His latest book, Self-Reg: How to Help Your Child (and You) Break the Stress Cycle and Successfully Engage With Life, published in June 2016, has garnered enthusiastic reviews and media attention throughout North America and has also been published in the UK, South Korea, The Netherlands and Germany with further translations and foreign editions in the works.
“All too often, we tell our children to calm down. Well, that’s utterly useless. What we need to do it to help them experience calm. We have to help them recognize when they’re overstressed, what the signs are, what the stressors are and to learn how to reduce those stressors. And they have to learn how to do all these things by themselves.” Dr. Shanker.
I was fortunate enough to sit down with Dr. Shanker at his home for a one on one interview. Honestly it was one of the most inspiring and insightful interviews I have ever done and I’ve been interviewing people for over 16 years, so that’s saying something!
This interview one is an overview of how to help our children and ourselves achieve calmer, happier and more productive states. Imagine how much better life would be if we knew how to achieve calmness?? Mind blowing isn’t it! Imagine your management at work applied these same principles to create a happy work environment? Watch and learn.
