Larry and Norma Devlin celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on May 19, 2021.

I recently had the privilege to speak with Larry Devlin about his COVID-19 experience. The interview took place over Zoom where Larry sat in a bed at Peterborough Regional Health Center.

24 hours after our interview took place, Larry was moved to the ICU. With a heavy heart, unfortunately Larry and his wife Norma have both passed away since.

Larry and Norma’s COVID-19 Story

Both Larry and Norma received their vaccines at the beginning of May. Despite receiving vaccines, they still contracted COVID-19.

It’s Larry’s prediction that they picked up the virus around the 10th of the month. When Larry began to feel under the weather, he referenced the sheet of side effects the clinic sent him home with. His symptoms matched it to a T. While they were both feeling unwell, there was some hesitation to visit the hospital.

But, after getting to PRHC, they went through a battery of tests to figure out what was going on. By 1pm the next day, they both had positive COVID-19 test results.

Larry experienced extreme chest pain, dry heaves, exhaustion and a great deal of irritability. Added to that, there were headaches, fevers and discomfort when he took deep breaths. Had they not gotten the vaccine, their reactions to the virus could have been much more severe.

Although he wasn’t convinced that the lockdowns work, Larry did believe in masks. He mentioned that when there’s doubts about these scenarios, he always airs on the side of caution.

Please take a few minutes and listen to what Larry has to say. There are so many take home messages in this interview and I feel honoured to be able to share their story.

Take a moment and hold your loved ones close. Pick up the phone and check in on a friend. Every day is a new opportunity and tomorrow is never promised. My thoughts are with Larry & Norma’s friends and family as they navigate through their recent loss.
