Are you feeling SAD? You might need more Vitamin D!

I’ve never been officially diagnosed with S.A.D. but winter in Canada is a big struggle for me. We absorb Vitamin D best through our skin, generally from the sun. During the fall and winter, seeking sunshine can be challenge.

I shot a live video with Marissa Laughlin, a nutritionist from Joanne’s Place talking about the benefits of vitamin D, the dosage and whether or not it can help kids.

I started taking Vitamin D3 a month and a half ago, and after the first dose I noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference in my mood. Before I started supplementing, I found myself tired, grumpy and lethargic. All of which indicate a Vitamin D deficiency.

Through my visit to Joanne’s Place and talking to Marissa I learned that Vitamin D also supports digestion and aids in boosting serotonin. Those are only a few of the perks.

It’s optimal to take in the mornings – think of it as the sunshine pill. However, depending on what you’re using it for, it may be ideal to take at night.

Of course, it’s recommended to consult a healthcare professional before you start taking any sort of supplement. In Canada, the recommended dose for adults is 1000 IUs and 400IUs for children 10 and under.

It’s also possible that your dosage may change throughout the year, depending on your personal situation and environment.

Go watch, join the conversation and be sure to follow Joanne’s Place on Facebook for important health information!
