It’s not always easy volunteering at my kids school.  The little one usually cries when it’s time for me to leave and honestly my kids can get whacky when I’m there.  This year has been one of the first years that I can actually go to the school without causing a major scene.

What I love about volunteering is how cool it is to see my kids in their element . It always fascinates me to secretly watch my kids when they think I’m not there.  HOW DO THEY FUNCTION WITHOUT ME?!!

Just fine.

This week my kid’s school celebrated an annual tradition; a Christmas turkey dinner served at lunch.  Parent council raises money and the whole school jams into well organized, well prepared gym to sit and enjoy a delicious catered turkey dinner.

IMG_5340.JPGIt was one of my favourite volunteering moments.  I got to serve the potatoes (which made me popular), but I also had the chance to meet so many of the kids, my kids talk about every day.  Volunteering at your kids school brings you closer to your children because you can relate to their life betterYou can have engaging conversations about the other people in their lives.  There were close to 18 parent volunteers helping with the turkey dinner and the sense of community made me feel all squishy inside (I’m clearly softening in my old age).

The school invited the bus drivers and the mayor for turkey too, and they all came!  It was really really, really nice.  Watch this vlog and see how happy these kids are (2:16).

Turkey Lunch at St Paul Lakefield SchoolMy heart grew two sizes serving a turkey dinner at my kids school. It's so fun to see your kids in their element. It's also amazing to see 18 parents volunteer to serve what has become an annual tradition at this school. The money is raised by parent council and even the bus drivers and the mayor were invited!!! I think every school should do this.  The grade eights set up all the tables and put brown paper down so the kids can draw while they wait.  It was a well oiled machine!  Great job to everyone who works hard to bring a community together for the right reasons! IMG_5339.JPG #SCHOOLFIE MF

My Lucky 7 List of How to Get Along After Separation and Divorce

My Lucky 7 List of How to Get Along After Separation and Divorce

I can honestly say divorce is the hardest thing I have ever experienced in my life, and without going into a lot of detail, that says a lot. Why?  Why is it so crippling? Because of your thoughts and the lies your mind tells you. Your mind tells you you failed.  Your mind tells you
