It’s one of the most beautiful times of year.  The smell, the fall colours, Thanksgiving is really like a big hug.

It makes me feel, mushy, in a lovey way.

This year I especially feel “mushy”.  You see it was only a year ago that my life felt upside down.  My Dad was battling prostate cancer.   My sister just beat thyroid cancer.   My son’s eczema was at an all time worst.   I was launching a brand new never before done live hour long television show.   My brother’s wife told him she was going to leave him, (they have five kids).   My husband was in between jobs, we sold our house and bought his family’s summer home which looked like something out of an episode of hoarders.  Mildly put, life didn’t feel balanced.

Living through renovations, another topic for discussion.

Anyway here I am, a year later and ironically the element we constantly want to slow down is also the thing I desperately wanted to speed up; TIME.  I wanted time to speed up so we could get through this part of our life.

One of my favourite sayings is to deal with a stressful situation is: “I can’t wait till one day we’re sitting around and saying,  member that time…..”.

Now I can say, “Remember when our kitchen was old and we lived without one for 3 months while we renovated. Remember when I tried my damnest not to cry while I soothed my allergy ridden son to stop from scratching his skin off.  Remember when we didn’t have enough money for gas.   Remember when my Dad had to get treatment for prostate cancer and he was sick as a dog.   Remember when we knew one day it would end.”

Now I look around and say, damn life is good.  Kids are healthy, I have a good job.  My husband has a good job. My Dad is cancer free.  I have a dishwasher and the pieces are getting picked back up. It will get better, sometimes it gets worse before it gets better, but be positive, it’s far more powerful then many people realize.

Marcello would scratch till he opened the skin, which caused infection. It was pretty tough to watch him suffer, he would just cry, and tell me “I wish I didn’t have skin”.

Fred Flintstone Jr is not worrying about his eczema today!

My point is, whether you’re in a mini or major crisis, a time of indecision or just feel unsure, time will help you.  In the wise words of my mom “this too shall pass”.  It always does.  Whether we want the clock to move or not, it will.  So embrace what you have, what you did have and what you will have.  One day you will say, “remember that blog MF wrote about time, it was grrreat.”  Well ok, you probably won’t say that, but that’s how I’ll remember it;)

Happy Turkey!  Now go make some memories.

  1. Well said Mitch, being thankful for what we have today, how ever insignificant they may seem will help all of us embrace the blessings we do have.
