The Healthy Kids Community Challenge is a campaign designed to get our kids eating more fruits and veggies.
Peterborough, Ontario has been selected as one of the pilot locations to launch this campaign in hopes that we can show the country that by getting kids involved in their food (i.e. gardening) they will make healthier choices.
Our family is doing the challenge and we hope you join us! To start, we are planting a veggie garden for the first time ever.
To get a better understanding of the campaign, watch our first Healthy Kids Community Challenge video with project coordinator, Deanna Moher.
I have wanted to build a garden for a long time. I LOVE FRESH fruit and veggies and honestly, so do my kids. I have always said when healthy food is accessible, kids will chose it. For example, after school if I have fresh fruit and veggies cut up, they will definitely choose that over anything.
This vlog was literally a labour of love. I was so impressed with how rewarding it was. We really wanted to use everything we already had, while being frugal and simplistic in our approach. It was a lot of grunt work.
Please watch, share and comment! So many of you have shared your tricks and we are loving your input! Join in the challenge and follow the Healthy Kids Community Challenge on Facebook and Twitter.
This challenge will be running all summer and we will be providing weekly updates on the progress and obstacles (we’ve already had a few).
We will also be offering delicious recipes with the Healthy Kids Community Challenge campaign. Use the hashtags #kidscangrow and #hkccptbo and join us as we literally figure out what we’re doing as we do it!
This series is sponsored by the Healthy Kids Community Challenge. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
